Lost & Found Pets

Lost your bunny? The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region works hard  to reunite as many lost pets with their families as we can. Our Reunion Rate is one of the best in Colorado and even nationwide.

The Humane Society of the United States estimates that a national average of 25 percent of lost dogs are reunited with their owners, and only 2 percent of lost cats. At our shelter, more than 40 percent of lost dogs are reunited with their families, on average, and about 8 percent of lost cats.

While we are proud to exceed the national average, we always want to do better. You can help! One of the best things you can do as a pet owner is look for your lost pet, especially your lost cat, as soon as you realize it is gone. Often people assume their pet has met a tragic or mysterious end, when in fact it is waiting at the shelter.

If you've lost your pet, we urge you to visit the Humane Society shelter as soon as possible and fill out a Lost Pet report. You can also look for your pet in our kennels, review Found Pet reports, and pick up a useful checklist of steps to take when looking for your lost pet.

If you've found a stray pet, you have several options, including bringing it to the shelter or keeping it at your home. Learn more about what to do when you rescue a stray on the Found A Stray? page. If it is after hours, you may leave the pet in our 24-hour drop-off, but if the pet is injured we ask you to call Animal Control at 473-1741 immediately.

We hold stray pets for a minimum of five days; please visit our Lost and Stray Pet Policies page to learn more about the fees and other policies that apply to lost pets.
