 There's no better feeling than seeing a lost pet reunited with its loving owner, or a new pet in the arms of its delighted family. The staff and volunteers at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region work hard to achieve a Save Rate of about 66 percent, year-to-date. What is a Save Rate? Simply put, it is the percentage of animals we saved out of those that we possibly could save. As much as we would like to, we cannot save every animal. For example, some animals arrive at our shelter already deceased; others are beloved family pets put to sleep at the request of their grieving owners. We do not include these types of animals in our Save Rate. You can learn more here about euthanasia and why it is sometimes necessary. According to the Humane Society of the United States, an estimated 6 to 8 million animals enter our nation's shelters each year, and an average of 50 to 55 percent are saved. While we are proud to exceed the national average, we always want to save more animals. You can help! By supporting your local Humane Society and through your everyday kindnesses to animals and responsible pet care, you can make a difference in the lives of our community's pets.
